In Utah there are so many job postings and not enough people to fill them. Our unemployment rate is so very low here and so it is difficult to figure out how to recruit employees and find that talent you need.
One thing Brad Sugars, founder of ActionCOACH, always teaches is that you need to recruit with your company’s culture, mission, and vision when you are trying to find people, especially if you’re using postings on job sites. A lot of people want to list only the requirements of the job, but you’ll attract a better pool of applicants if you talk about the culture, vision, and mission of your company. That way you attract people who will fit into the culture that you currently have or that you’re trying to cultivate. Then you run a lower risk of losing that talent.
You spend so much time, energy, and resources training someone in the tasks of a job and if they don’t fit into your culture, then you’ll ultimately end up starting all over. It’s a big expense so keep that in mind when you recruit. Really leverage your culture. Maybe you need to ask yourself, “Is my culture defined? What kind of culture am I cultivating?” Poll your current team and ask what’s important to them. Ask what they believe the culture is. By looking closely at your culture before you start recruiting, you may save yourself time, energy, and resources.
